5-37

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.“

— Thomas Edison

Born as a surprise set of twins, their mother had only prepared Citizenship for one. At her teary-eyed eyed request, however, the second twin was omitted from the records… and smuggled out. For eight long years their mother managed to keep the boy’s existence hidden, until the assassination of Knight Industries officials led to mass surveillance and further expansion of the Enforcer program.

The Enforcers normally had a rule against accepting anyone that wasn’t born directly into the Civil Service—and ‘5-37’ (five thirty-seven) is the exact reason why. Those within the Civil Service were brainwashed to be obedient, never questioning, and content without desires. Having known a life before entering the service… 5-37 grew to be none of these. Still, after lobbying for his admittance, S.A. Dawson continued to take a special interest in him—making time to personally train him beyond his curriculum.

Character Inspirations

“Movies have always been my escape from reality, but Action and Comedy are by far my favorite. The characters are a lot like me in real life, but they rarely have to deal with sadness, love, or anything else complicated or stressful. They’re easy to relate to, but only in the ways you’d want to. That’s what I wanted: a character that was easy to cheer for because his goals and morals were simple, despite being superhuman.”
